The First Blur Concert in Jakarta, reviewed

“God this is so crazy! I’ve been waiting for them since 15 years ago man!”, a guy standing beside me shouted at Blur concert (Big Sound Festival) last Wednesday night (May 15th, 2013). That sentence came out after the crowd energetically sang along together to “Tender”. It was so beautifully loud, that made it difficult for me who stood at the festival area to hear Damon’s vocals.

Let’s call it a really historical night, especially for Blur’s die hard fans. That night maybe was the peak of their most awaited days. Imagine how it felt to wait for more than 10 years to have your favourite band play a concert in your hometown. Damon Albarn also expressed his happiness to finally having a concert in Indonesia after waiting for 20 years.

Blur opened their show with “Girls and Boys”, the crowd started to sing along to the song which is, of course, one of their best-known songs.  This also happened when songs like “Beetlebum”, “Country House”, and “Universal” came up.

Overall , Blur’s performance was amazing. They played really well on each of their songs.  Damon also put a lot of energy to his performance, hopping here and there on the stage and he even sang “Country House” while standing in the middle of the crowd. The 19-song setlist finished in two hours long, and that was definitely the best two hours of Blur’s die hard fans. It was priceless.

They ended the show with “Song 2”. The crowd were jumping around when Dave Towntree started to beat his drum for the intro to the song. They got even crazier when Graham Coxon shreded his guitar and everyone screamed “WOOHOO!!”.  Everyone’s spirit was definitely at the very top and they were emotionally satisfied. I felt so lucky to be standing in the middle of Blur’s die hard fans. I almost did not see people who put up their phones to record the show (which is really annoying, by the way). Everybody sang along and jumped around together the whole concert. It was very much worth seeing.

Thanks for amazing show Damon, Graham, Dave and Alex.

“Gila! Gue nunggu 15 tahun men!”

Thanks for amazing show Damon, Graham, Dave and Alex.
