“Less is better” is the perfect philosophy for Jason Wu’s latest resort outing. He was inspired by the work of Dieter Rams, the German industrial designer famous for the beautiful record players and radios in the 60s. This Resort collection is certainly a departure from Wu’s collection we’ve seen over the last few season, which have been more colorful.
This season, Wu created a cleaner, more linear but aesthetically pleasing designs which took a more minimal direction — both with neutral palette and simple silhouette. The Resort collection features a sleeveless cotton shirt worn with long trousers, crepe pencil skirt with a slit, short skirts that are colored in neutral palette which makes the collection looking really sleek.
About his collection, Wu said, “I’m playing with a ladylike aesthetic with a new set of eyes. I’m taking full authority of that ladylike aesthetic. It’s so important to me. That’s what I do. But it still needs to be youthful. It still needs to be innovative. It still needs to be fashion. So, it’s about reaffirming all those codes with a new set of eyes. “
Whenever a designer explores a dramatic new direction, there are opportunities to attract new customers, and alienate your existing ones. But this collection’s so good, right? It’s more grown up and sophisticated. We love it. You can see the full collection here.
